Ida decides she and Quagmire need time apart and leaves for a hotel. Meanwhile, Brian has been out of town attending a seminar on creating a Web series and is unaware of what has transpired. On his way home, Brian stops at a hotel bar, where this subplot begins to merge with the main plot. Brian meets Ida, the two quickly develop a relationship, and after both get drunk, they retire to Ida's room to have sex. The next morning, Brian returns home and tells Peter and Lois he has met a woman named Ida, showing pictures of her that he took with his cellular telephone.

The next morning, Peter learns that Lois invited Jerome to stay with the family until he can find a new place to live.
Peter is unable to contain his jealousy, and after a series of pratfalls - including Jerome using 'alternate methods' to save Lois from choking when the Heimlich doesn't work; and later, Peter wearing a KKK outfit and carrying a flaming torch - he eventually kicks Jerome out. That night, Lois tells Peter that she is disgusted with him, and shows him a present that Jerome bought him in gratitude for their friendship and giving him a temporary place to live. In the subplot, Brian seeks to find out why Quagmire acts so coolly distant with him. The next morning, Peter realizes the record is missing and sets out to buy another copy, only to find that 'a dog and a baby' have already scoured Quahog's used record stores and bought every last copy of 'Surfin' Bird' (to destroy them). Initially, Peter is upset at his inability to buy a new copy, but then settles down and realizes the clerk at one of the stores looks familiar.

Jesus muses that he wasn't ready to return to Earth and decides to leave, but Peter reassures him that someday he will be ready. Brian and Peter travel to Ireland in an attempt to find Peter's real father, and do when they encounter a man named Mickey McFinnigan, the town drunk. Mickey refuses at first to believe they are biologically father and son, but Peter challenges Mickey to engage in a beer drinking contest to persuade him otherwise. Peter wins the duel, and Mickey realizes that he must be his son 'because only a member of my family could beat me at drinking.' The two celebrate their newfound relationship.
In the subplot, Lois disciplines Stewie when he persists in his highly possessive misbehavior. But rather than get the hint, Stewie discovers that he is sadomasochist and - after realizing that Lois is being apologetic for her actions - deliberately misbehaves so that his mother can hit him again and again.

When Peter and Chris' favorite TV show is canceled, Peter hatches a scheme to get it back on the air: by having Chris pretend to be dying of a rare disease, Peter convinces a dying wish charity to lobby the network to re-air the show in exchange for the TV rights to Chris' death. Peter then tries to back out of his end of the deal by claiming to have miraculously healed the fatal disease, but doesn't count on what will happen when people believe he's telling the truth.
